Clyde Gates Not A Lock To Make Final Roster
(7/6 2:33 PT)

The Facts:
With a receiver corps that otherwise goes only two deep in terms of any semblance of NFL experience -- Brian Hartline and Davone Bess -- it would be a big surprise if Chad Ochocinco fails to prove himself worthy of making the 53-man roster. With that in mind, here’s a question: Which other receiver is likely to be most challenged by his addition? The pick here is Gates. Reported by the Palm Beach Post

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
So wrote Post staffer Brian Biggane, who went on to remind readers that Gates was said to be a project when the Dolphins selected him in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, and he did nothing to disprove that in his rookie season. While he was able to use his blazing speed to get behind defensive backs when given the opportunity, he never cashed in with a long play, finishing with two catches for 19 yards. Gates’ speed does give him an edge on the competition, and while the West Coast offense doesn’t employ many deep balls, it’s nice to have that weapon in your arsenal. Regardless, Gates will have to show more versatility in training camp to have a legitimate shot to stick.
