But things have changed, and Johnson knows it. “We were more of a smash-mouth team when I got here,” Johnson said. “And now it is more of a passing offense.”

Still, Johnson said, “I expect to have a big role. ...” He will. And he should. No running back in the NFL has had more success than Johnson over the past four seasons. Since entering the league in 2008, Johnson has complied 5,645 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns. The Titans believe Johnson is ready to bounce back after a disappointing season in 2011, when he managed a career-low 1,047 yards and 4.0 yards per carry average. So (the eight pounds of muscle he added over the offeseason aside), why should we believe Johnson is ready to rebound? According to Tennessean staffer Jim Wyatt, with more weapons surrounding him on the offensive side of the ball -- the Titans plan to get first-round pick Kendall Wright heavily involved right off the bat -- Johnson knows it could free him up for big gains. “Since I got here, a lot of seasons, everybody has been keying on me,” Johnson said. “So, having all the extra additions, I feel like a lot of teams won’t be able to focus on me like they have in years past. ...” We shall see. As Wyatt summed up: "There’s no reason why Johnson shouldn’t return to Pro Bowl form. If he doesn’t, something’s wrong."
