While many assume that Helu is a lock to capture the starting role with the Redskins this year at some point, there's a case to be made that he is not ready for that role.

According to the Washington Post, Helu has durability questions and the Redskins (read head coach Mike Shanahan) also feel that he needs to be more creative and assertive in finding yardage on his own when there is no obvious hole to run through. Shanahan is taking a "prove it" attitude on Helu handling a serious work load over an extended length of time, but it also seems that he'll not get the opportunity to prove that if Tim Hightower is healthy, which remains a question at this time as well.
