Following up on
the previous item. ... The plan all along, Wells said Wednesday, was for him to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list. No surprise, he said, although a lot of people were just that: Surprised. Wells is recovering from knee surgery to fix, uh, something in there. Wells hasn't said what was repaired. Here was his explanation on Wednesday: "I had a scope and we did some things in there. Kind of let some things settle down and get right."

Wells, suggesting he's currently at 75 percent, said he is being patient because he prepared himself mentally for his rehab. "I'm going to take my time," he said. "Everybody wants to see a 100 percent Beanie Wells and that's what I want to give. ..." Meanwhile, Ryan Williams is practicing and estimated he's at about 85 percent. According to Republic staffer Kent Somers, Williams looked quick on a handful of carries during the first camp workout. Nonetheless, Wells said he doesn't feel pressured by Williams' progress. Wells said he would start practicing in a few weeks, in plenty of time to get ready for the season opener. ... Stay tuned.
