According to the Union-Tribune, Boller will likely be on the roster just a few weeks as backup Qb Charlie Whitehurst rehabilitates a strained MCL in his left knee. HC Norv Turner said the team expects Whitehurst to be out “a couple weeks,” a timeline that encompasses the Aug. 9 preseason opener. Boller, 31, has thrown 48 touchdown passes and been intercepted 54 times in 67 career game during stints with the Ravens, Rams and Raiders. Also: Billy Volek, who had been their backup from 2006 to 2011, turned down the team’s contract offer on Thursday night.
