With Jahvid Best still not cleared for contact and Mikel LeShoure not quite back to full health, Smith is taking the early reps with the starters.

Smith comes into the season in great shape after joining the Lions partly through the 2011 season while he was a free agent. He has a great attitude and says he just wants to help the team however he can. Meanwhile, LeShoure looks fast and strong but he's not quite at 100 percent at this point. When he is, he'll stake a claim for increased touches. Best remains a mystery as to when, or if, he will return to the field. This will be a very fluid situation in camp.
