previous item. ... Mathews suffered minor injuries around midnight Monday when he was in a two-vehicle collision. He said that he was hurrying to the team hotel after watching a movie at home. He arrived at a stretch of road where he regularly commutes, felt his car drift and overcompensated, causing his car to spin out. The 2010 first-round draft pick said he banged up his elbow "a little bit" in the crash. "I felt like I played about four games (Monday) when I woke up (Tuesday) morning," Mathews said.

Mathews complained of pain and was taken to a hospital to be examined. He was possibly driving too fast, Bailey said, adding that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be involved. Mathews called the accident a "freak thing." The Chargers were off Monday and returned to the field for practice on Tuesday afternoon. Mathews watched practice but did not participate. HC Norv Turner said that his status is "day-to-day." Turner added: "There was no violation of our curfew," Turner said. "We're very fortunate that Ryan or no one else was hurt in the accident. Unfortunately, there are automobile accidents at times. We all try to learn from our different situations. I'm just very thankful he was not injured and the other party was not injured. ..." But considering the way the Chargers have clearly gone all in on Mathews this year, Turner is more thankful for the former. We suspect more than a few Fantasy owners feel the same.
