The Facts:
Bettis will serve as a studio analyst with Bob Costas and Cris Collinsworth on NBC's telecasts of Sunday night football -- and his first day on the job will feature the Steelers' season opener on a special Thursday night edition Sept. 7. The show will be called "Football Night in America." NBC says the one-hour pregame show will begin at 7 p.m (eastern).

Bettis won several awards during his career for his affable nature with the media, and he hosted his own local TV show. He ended his playing career after 13 seasons, retiring as the NFL's No. 5 career rusher. In recent seasons, though, he was relegated to more short-yardage or goal-line situations.
