The Facts:
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Monday that tight end Fred Davis should go through the NFL's concussion protocol after he was leveled by a helmet-to-helmet hit by cornerback Janoris Jenkins in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Rams. The hit took place with 4:55 left in the game on second and 10 from the Washington 21-yard line. Robert Griffin III threw a pass to Davis, who snatched the ball out of the air. Before the tight end could take a step, Jenkins hit Davis on the head and sent him flying backward to the ground. Davis will have to pass a series of tests and be cleared by doctors before he returns to action. It's possible Davis will miss Washington's Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Concussions are problematic in "real football" and "fantasy football," and they typically make a player's status a question mark until late in the week. Fantasy owners who drafted Davis are no doubt underwhelmed by his early season production. Davis caught four passes for 52 yards in two games. With his status for Week 3 up-in-the-air and lack of meaningful production so far, we think it's reasonable (and smart) for fantasy owners consider other options at tight end. If Davis misses any action, to look at other tight end options. Niles Paul (three catches, 13 yards) is next up on the Redskins depth chart, but he's not a recommended add at this time.
