The Facts:
During his appearance on WBBM 780-AM on Monday, Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said that running back Matt Forte was sore, but did not have a high ankle sprain. “Matt did go down with an ankle injury. It’s not a high ankle sprain, as has been reported,” Smith said. “But right now, you know when you don’t finish the game and he still has some soreness, we’ll continue to monitor it, but we felt we needed another running back here, that’s why we brought back a guy who knows our system and has played good ball for us in Kahlil Bell.”
On a related note, Forte was present at the team's practice on Monday and wasn't wearing a cast of any kind. While he didn't run, he jogged off the practice field at a pretty quick clip afterward to avoid the media. His mobility seems to confirm Smith's comments that the ankle sprain isn't as serious as originally reported. The Bears host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Forte's injury was one of many low-lights for the Bears in last Thursday's 28-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. By all accounts, it sounds like Forte's return to action could be on the lower end of the two-to-six week timetable originally expected. This is good news for fantasy owners with Forte on their rosters. Michael Bush is a must-start while Forte is sidelined. The re-signed Kahlil Bell was productive late last season when Forte and Marion Barber were injured, but he isn't worth a pick up at this point.
