The Facts:
Following up on a
previous item, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson's back problem involves a disc that is causing weakness and numbness is one of his legs. Simpson and the team are considering surgical and non-surgical treatments. Microdiscectomy surgery would sideline Simpson for six weeks or through Minnesota's Week 11 bye. The Vikings are targeting Wednesday for a decision on a course of action for Simpson. Barring a miracle, he is a long shot for Week 6.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While we like Simpson's potential as a playmaker in the Vikings offense, his medical condition will keep him off the field for the foreseeable future. Whether he goes under the knife or not, it is a setback for Simpson who was shaking off the rust and re-establishing his preseason chemistry with Christian Ponder following his return from a three-game suspension. Wait until the Vikings announce the treatment program for Simpson before you cut him loose. However if you need to make a roster move due to injuries or bye weeks, Simpson is expendable. Minnesota may look to sign a free agent to bolster their receiving corps or make do with the current crew. Michael Jenkins and Devin Aromashodu should pick up extra looks in Simpson's absence, but neither are worth a roster spot at this point.
