The Facts:
Following up on a
previous item, head coach Dennis Allen confirmed that running back Darren McFadden sustained a high-sprain in Oakland's 42-32 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the Raiders haven't ruled out McFadden for Week 10, it is unlikely that he'll be on the field Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. McFadden has missed 19 games in his first four seasons with foot, toe, shoulder, knee and hamstring injuries.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While McFadden hasn't lived up to preseason expectations about his fantasy production, at least he was healthy, right? It was only a matter of time before DMC would go down with an injury, and the notoriously slow-healer is a virtual lock to miss Week 10 and likely longer. We've heard mixed reports about the severity of McFadden's high-ankle sprain, so for now, we'll have to wait and see. Injuries of this nature typically require two to six weeks before a player can return to the field. To make matters worse, McFadden's backup Mike Goodson was also diagnosed with the same injury and his status is as up in the air as McFadden's. Fullback Marcel Reece looks to be the emergency pickup for McFadden owners in PPR formats, as he was active in the passing attack after DMC and Goodson went down. The former college wide receiver grabbed eight balls for 95 yards and a score. Reece is also an excellent blocker, which means he'll be on the field for most if not all of Oakland's offensive snaps. Tailback Taiwan Jones is worth a look as a speculative add in deeper formats if both McFadden and Goodson are out for an extended period of time. That doesn't mean that you should put him in your starting lineup until we see how often he's on the field. Jones has battled injuries all season and he doesn't pass protect very well, which could limit his opportunities. Oakland may need to sign another running back for depth. We'll keep you posted on McFadden's status for Week 10 and updates about his condition/timetable to return.
