The Facts:
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith took a vicious blow to the back of the head/neck by linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar at the end of the first quarter of Sunday's Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams. Smith grabbed his face mask and winced but stayed in the game for another series, throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree in the second quarter. Colin Kaepernick replaced Smith on San Francisco's next possession. Smith was evaluated by trainers on the sideline before heading to the locker room just before half time. San Francisco confirmed Smith's concussion. He was 7-for-8 for 72 yards before exiting the game.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Smith may have been in more fantasy lineups this week than usual with four teams on bye. He'll have to undergo a battery of tests and be cleared by an independent neurologist before being cleared for practice next week. The 49ers take on the Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 11, so Smith may have a little extra time to get well.
