Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski undergoes surgery for broken forearm
(11/19 11:56 PT)

The Facts:
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had surgery Monday morning to repair the broken left forearm he suffered Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts. Though the injury is not expected to be season-ending, the exact timetable for Gronkowski's return is still up in the air. Gronkowski's injury occurred on the final extra point attempt when he was rushed by former teammate Sergio Brown. Witnesses said his arm seemed to crump and hung limp at his side when he walked off the field. True to form, Bill Belichick provided little information on the third-year tight end's status in a mid-afternoon phone call with the media.  Reported by the Boston Globe

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Patriots will have regroup for life (at least for now) without Gronkowski and so will fantasy owners who were riding Mr. "Yo soy fiesta" into the fantasy playoffs. Early reports indicate Gronk could be sidelined for four to six weeks, but there are many factors (location of fracture, the bone(s) involved in the fracture, and how quickly or not a player heals) that play a role in setting a timetable for a return from a broken forearm. While Gronkowski's production will be difficult--if not impossible to replace--owners without a backup on the roster may have a few more options to choose from now that bye weeks are over. Here are some names for you to consider: (1) Brandon Myers, Oakland Raiders—Myers has a great rapport with Carson Palmer and leads the team in targets and receptions. He's on track to finish among the top 10 fantasy TEs this season. Favorable matchups coming up with Bengals, Browns, Broncos, Chiefs, and Panthers.(2)Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts—Finished with a team-high 11 targets Sunday vs. New England and caught six balls for 69 yards. While he hasn't scored since Week 5, Allen's role is growing in Coby Fleener's absence. Allen is a better PPR option, and he has a host of favorable matchups on the horizon including the Bills, Lions, Titans, and Chiefs. (3) Marcedes Lewis, Jacksonville Jaguars—Not a whole-hearted endorsement for Lewis given the QB situation, but he's worth a look in non-PPR deeper leagues especially with Henne under center. Lewis only catches three or four balls a game max, but he has a nose for the end zone. He also has a favorable schedule to close out the season including the Titans, Bills, Jets, Dolphins and Patriots.
