The Facts:
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid announced Tuesday the team will place wide receiver DeSean Jackson on injured reserve with multiple fractured ribs high in his chest area. Jackson was injured in the first quarter of Monday night's 30-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers. During the game, he was initially diagnosed with a bruised sternum, but further evaluation and tests determined he had a rib injury. The fifth-year wide receiver signed a five-year deal worth up to $51 million in the offseason. He caught 45 passes for 700 yards and two touchdowns.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Although Andy Reid said it's possible Jackson could return later this season if the Eagles decide to use the team's injured-reserve exemption, it doesn't seem likely. DJax has a six-week injury and the 3-8 Eagles will use what's left of the 2012 season to get a better look at the younger players on the squad. Fantasy owners can safely cut Jackson from their fantasy rosters. It's hard to feel good about any Philadelphia receiver at the moment, so if you're looking to fill Jackson's spot, other late season options include the Redskins' Pierre Garcon, Colts' T.Y. Hilton, Jaguars' Justin Blackmon or Cecil Shorts, Rams' Chris Givens, Lions' Ryan Broyles, Bengals' Mohammad Sanu and Panthers' Brandon LaFell.
