Giants sign running backs Kregg Lumpkin & Ryan Torain
(11/28 1:38 PT)

The Facts:
After losing Andre Brown to a broken fibula, the New York Giants worked out veteran running backs on Tuesday and signed Kregg Lumpkin and Ryan Torain to bolser their backfield depth. Both backs also worked out for the team during the Week 11 bye. Brown's injury left the Giants with just two running backs on the roster, starter Ahmad Bradshaw and rookie first-rounder David Wilson along with fullback Henry Hynoski. While head coach Tom Coughlin said of Wilson "it's his time" to step up and contribute, the signing of two veterans gives the team added security if Wilson isn't ready to take the next step. Lumpkin was an undrafted free agent with the Packers in 2008. He has also had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and most recently, the Seattle Seahawks, who waived him in September. Lumpkin is a "power back" known for his solid pass-catching and pass-protection skills. Torain was a fifth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2008. He rose to prominence with the Washington Redskins in 2010, rushing for 742 yards, catching 18 passes for 125 yards and six total touchdowns in 10 games. Torain struggled to stay healthy in 2011, playing in parts of eight games before being cut by Washington in December 2011.  Reported by Allie Fontana on Twitter

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
We expect Ahmad Bradshaw will benefit the most from Brown's absence--especially when it comes to goal-line opportunities. While neither Lumpkin nor Torain merit a spot on your fantasy roster at this point in time, it'll be interesting to see just how short (or long) of a leash explosive rookie David Wilson is on heading down the stretch. Get ready to pounce if it looks like Wilson has earned the trust of Coughlin & Co.
