The Facts:
The Arizona Cardinals released veteran tight end Todd Heap after almost two seasons in which he was off the field for more games (16) than he was on (12). He caught eight balls for 94 yards in two games this year, and 32 for 377 yards and one touchdown in total. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said last week that Heap was close to returning from a knee injury sustained in a Week 2 win over the New England Patriots. Heap, a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens 2011, has 499 receptions for 5,869 yards and 42 touchdowns in his 12-year career. He'll be an unrestricted free agent if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Injuries have certainly put a damper on Heap's career over the past several years, and in turn, his fantasy relevance. Can't say we're surprised by his release given Rob Housler's emergence over the course of the season. If Heap is close or at 100 percent, it'll be interesting to see if the New York Jets give him a tryout with Dustin Keller's status up in the air.
