Edelman, who also serves as the team’s punt returner, suffered a broken right foot in Sunday’s Dolphins win, a league source confirmed. The Patriots have announced that they have placed the fourth-year player on injured reserve. The Patriots have also officially announced the signing of wide receiver Donte' Stallworth.

Edelman, who left the stadium on crutches with a walking boot on the injured foot, is now done for the season. The oft-injured Edelman, who suffered a hand injury in the Baltimore game Week 3 which forced him to miss several games, has come on of late, providing help in the offense. His more important role, however, is with the punt return team, where he is one of the league’s best., averaging 15.5 yards per return, which won’t be easily replaced. He had a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown against the Colts this season. Stallworth will help in the offense. He may also get some work fielding punts with Wes Welker. Edelman, by the way, is in the final year of his contract.
