The Daily News reported on Tuesday that owner Woody Johnson preferred Greg McElroy to start in Jacksonville. GM Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano believed that Sanchez should start this week, according to sources. Ryan wasn’t given a directive from his bosses to start a particular quarterback, according to Daily News staffer Manish Mehta, so it makes sense that he took Sparano’s suggestion to go with Sanchez. Sanchez hit rock bottom last Sunday when Ryan benched him for the first time in his career. The fourth-year quarterback threw three interceptions on his first 10 passes and went 10-for-21 for 97 yards and a 21.4 quarterback rating before Ryan pulled him.
