Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew forced out with an ankle injury
(12/9 11:27 PT)

The Facts:
Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew failed to record a target or a catch before leaving with an ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. He was examined by trainers on the sideline, but did not return. His absence sparked a smattering of "Where is Pettigrew?" and "Why is Will Heller on the field?" questions on Twitter. Tony Scheffler caught just three of 10 targets for 20 yards, but one was a second quarter touchdown. Will Heller finished with 21 yards on four grabs.  Reported by Allie Fontana on Twitter

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Tight ends have been a source of disappointment and angst among fantasy owners throughout the season and Week 14 was no exception. With Nate Burleson, Ryan Broyles and the disruptive Titus Young on injured reserve, the Lions started street free-agent Kris Durham opposite Calvin Johnson on Sunday night. Pettigrew was expected to step up and help fill the pass-catcher void. The ankle injury derailed the best laid plans and he contributed a big fat zero to fantasy owners counting on him for the first week of the playoffs. Pettigrew wasn't alone in the "goose egg" category in posting a goose egg. The Eagles' Brent Celek (concussion); Vikings' Kyle Rudolph (inexplicable), 49ers' Vernon Davis (inexcusable); Jaguars' Marcedes Lewis (neck stinger) and the Raiders' Brandon Myers also failed to register a single fantasy point in standard scoring leagues. Only four TEs finished with double-digit fantasy points (again, standard scoring): Panthers' Greg Olsen (11 FPs); Eagles' Clay Harbor (11 FPs); Ravens' Dennis Pitta (10 FPs) and Seahawks' Anthony McCoy (10). The Lions have released very little information on Pettigrew's injury status. Meanwhile, if you make it through to the next round or your playoffs include a two-week semifinal and you're counting on Pettigrew, be sure to check back for updates on his condition.
