Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has sprained knee, MRI reveals no serious ligament damage
(12/10 10:1 PT)

The Facts:
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin, III sprained his right knee with 1:56 left in regulation of Sunday's Week 14 "Battle of the Beltway" game with the Baltimore Ravens. The injury occurred on a second-and-19 play in which Griffin sprinted 13 yards before he was hit by 340-pound Ravens defensive end Haloti Ngata. RG III's leg wrapped around Ngata, who then drove him to the ground and rolled over him after making the tackle. Griffin's right knee appeared to hyperextend. The rookie signal caller limped off the field for one play, then returned for four more before Kirk Cousins stepped in and replaced him and led the Redskins to a 31-28 come-from-behind win over the Ravens in overtime. Team spokesperson Tony Wyllie announced that an MRI conducted after the game confirmed Griffin suffered a sprain, which by definition means that he has some damage in one or more ligaments in his knee. Head coach Mike Shanahan will provide additional updates on Griffin's condition on Monday. For now, at least, it looks like he escaped what looked to be a much more serious injury.  Reported by Allie Fontana on Twitter

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
If you've been rolling with Griffin as your QB1 or just a fan of his stellar play, then you're undoubtedly relieved that his MRI didn't reveal a torn ACL, MCL, etc. For his part, Griffin is vowing to "fight through" the pain and be on the field for a Week 15 tilt against the Cleveland Browns. Despite the good news and RG III's positive attitude, we anticipate a week filled with many, many updates concerning his status. We'll be here to keep you informed of the practices he'll miss or participate in a limited basis, along with all the latest news on his condition.
