Bills Reportedly Widening Scope Of Coaching Search
(1/3 5:42 PT)

The Facts:
According to WGR Radio host Howard Simon, the Bills have scheduled an interview this weekend with the former Bears HC Lovie Smith. The Bills are also talking to Oregon’s Chip Kelly, who is at the de facto NFL job fair site in advance of tonight’s Fiesta Bowl. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Smith went 81-63 in nine years in Chicago, but had missed the playoffs five of the last six seasons. He had three losing seasons, two of them 7-9 campaigns. But has Tim Graham of the Buffalo News points out, the Bills haven’t made it to 7-9 in any of their last eight seasons, so that doesn’t sound so bad by comparison. ... Meanwhile, one of the names on the Plan B (or maybe C) list seems to be Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. As PFT's Darin Gantt notes, there was an item in the Washington Post Monday which mentioned two teams having “preliminary interest” in Haslett as a candidate for head coaching jobs. Gantt reminded readers that Haslett has a clear link there, having played for the Bills for seven seasons. But it’s unclear how serious the interest is, or whether they’ll ask for permission to interview him. Meanwhile, former Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt has already interviewed for the opening left when Chan Gailey was fired.
