The Panthers' search for a new general manager is over after the team hired New York Giants executive Dave Gettleman on Wednesday afternoon.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Gettleman, 62, has a quarter-century of NFL experience and has been a part of six Super Bowl teams, including three that won rings – the 1997 Broncos and the 2007 and 2011 Giants. He worked closely in New York with former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, who consulted the Panthers on the search and had two Giants' executives on his list of finalists. Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has long admired the Mara family that owns the Giants and the organization in general. "I was very impressed with Dave’s experience and think he will be a very good fit for our organization,” Richardson said in a statement released by the team. For at least this year, Gettleman will be working with a coach, Ron Rivera, he didn't hire. We'll see if that lasts beyond 2013.
