Jets Hire Marty Mornhinweg As Their Next OC
(1/18 4:26 PT)

The Facts:
Shortly after the Jets hired John Idzik their new general manager, a source confirmed that Marty Mornhinweg is expected to be the team’s new offensive coordinator. The Jets fired Tony Sparano from the position following the season, in which the Jets ranked 30th in offense. Reported by the New York Daily News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Mornhinweg has served as the Eagles offensive coordinator since 2006 and has been with the team since 2003. He has been in the NFL since 1995 and worked in the Packers, 49ers and Lions organizations. The hiring represents a chance in offensive philosophy for the Jets, but fits the bill for the more aggressive-style offense that Rex Ryan called for in his season-ending press conference. Mornhinweg is a passing coordinator, and the Jets have been a run-first team essentially since Ryan took over in 2009. The Jets interviewed at least five candidates for the coordinator position, including former Ravens coordinator Cam Cameron, Stanford’s Pep Hamilton and Saints QB coach Joe Lombardi. The Daily News reported Friday that the team interviewed former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur for the job as well.
