As DetroitLions.com staffer Tim Twentyman noted, the decision to release Young ends a short -- and tumultuous -- relationship between he and the team. Young's behavior and attitude last season put the franchise in a bad position -- one that ultimately led to today's decision. It started last spring when Young allegedly punched teammate Louis Delmas, which resulted in Young leaving the team for a short time. He was banned from the team two more times during the regular season; once in November for intentionally lining up wrong in a game vs. the Packers and for insubordination, and again when he didn’t sufficiently take advantage of the second chance afforded to him when he was allowed to return from that dismissal. Young was ultimately placed on injured reserve because of tendinitis in his knee. Young made the situation worse last month when sent out a number of critical Tweets on his official Twitter account. ... The Lions took Young in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the idea that he could be the No. 2 receiver to help take some of the pressure off All Pro Calvin Johnson. Young showed promise at the end of the 2011 season recording six touchdowns in the team’s last nine games. In the end, though, Young thought he was bigger than the team. With his release Monday, the Lions made it clear that is not the case.
