Tarvaris Jackson Re-Signs With Bills; Will Compete With Fitzpatrick
(2/15 12:48 PT)

The Facts:
The Bills never turned to Jackson in 2012, but the quarterback could get his chance to get on the field in 2013. That was the message Bills coach Doug Marrone sent in the team’s announcement that they have re-signed Jackson to a one-year contract. Marrone said that Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick have both been informed that they’ll be taking part in an open competition for the team’s quarterback job.  Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
“I spoke with Ryan and Tarvaris and told them we will have an open competition at the quarterback position — similar to what we will do at all positions on our team heading into our offseason work,” Marrone said. “I believe that our players will embrace this challenge. We are looking forward to working with our players as we prepare for the 2013 season. ...” BuffaloBills.com staffer Chris Brown believes Jackson is attractive to Marrone and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett because of his background in the West Coast offense, principles of which will be part of the Bills’ offense this season. As PFT's Josh Alper suggests, it probably doesn’t hurt that Fitzpatrick hasn't met expectations the last two years.
