As NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal put it: "The Jaguars
are not giving up on Gabbert, but they aren't necessarily counting on him either. ..." So Gabbert enters his third season as a pro facing competition for the starting job. But who will he compete with? According to the Sports Xchange, they're not talking about making a splash in free agency. That probably means they won't go after Alex Smith or Matt Flynn. Since there is no quarterback likely to be worth the second pick in the draft, they are likely to select one later in the draft. Meanwhile, they keep talking about Gabbert's potential and how he'd be in this draft as a fifth-year senior if he had redshirted and hadn't come out early two years ago. ... For the record, in Gabbert's first two years, he had a passer rating of 65.4 and 77.4 and he spent the final six games last year on the injured reserve list when he was replaced by Chad Henne.
