Chiefs Haven't Asked Matt Cassel To Take A Pay Cut
(2/24 12:4 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... A person briefed on the Chiefs' thinking in regard to Cassel said the veteran quarterback has not been offered a pay cut from his slated salary of $7.5 million. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hasn't talked about Cassel's contract situation in detail, said it seems Cassel is destined to be released soon. Reported by USA Today

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Cassel lost his starting job at mid-season last year, but Brady Quinn did nothing to show he deserved the chance to start eight games as he did. Indeed, as the Sports Xchange contends, quarterback play was the single most deficient area of production on the season, as they threw for less than 3,000 yards, completing 57.5 percent of his passes, with eight touchdown passes and 20 interceptions. Despite the lackluster play of the two men ahead of him, Ricky Stanzi never got on the field, and that said a lot about what the coaching staff thought about his abilities. Now, with a new coaching staff and front office, it seems all but certain a new direction is coming (with Alex Smith being mentioned as a possible target).
