The Pennington saga went into overtime last night, when the decision to delay the start of free agency gave the Jets three more days to work out a compromise on his contract. With five hours left before the previous deadline last night, the two sides were closing in on a deal to restructure Pennington's contract and lower his cap number, allowing him to continue his career with the team, two people with knowledge of the talks said.
