Coughlin Admits Victor Cruz's Contract Situation Is Frustrating
(3/6 12:21 PT)

The Facts:
HC Tom Coughlin said "no question" Cruz is a player he'd like to have in the Giants program long-term, but the Giants' talks with the receiver's camp for a long-term deal have so far not been fruitful. Coughlin admitted the uncertainty around Cruz's Giants future is difficult for a coach. "I like to think that I can control everything, and that I can have something to do with making sure that something gets done that I think would be beneficial to everyone," Coughlin said Monday. "And certainly I believe that about Victor. We want Victor to be a Giant until the end of his career, but obviously he and his people, his agents, they’ve got to make that call. It’s a little bit frustrating in that you’d like to have it done, that’s all." Reported by the Newark Star-Ledger

Cruz is a restricted free agent, so the Giants can keep him for this season with a tender. When asked if they can count on having Cruz in 2013, Coughlin said, "I think so." The sides had been working on a long-term deal to keep Cruz with the team long-term. Negotiations were tabled during the season, and last month, co-owner John Mara said Cruz's camp was asking for too much money at that point in time. ... Stay tuned.
