Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported Monday morning that the Dolphins "didn't have much, if any, competition for a big-money deal" for Wallace during the start of the NFL's free-agent negotiating period. Big money in this case is around the $11 million per season, Dwayne Bowe/Vincent Jackson type-deals.

The Dolphins always have been linked with Wallace, as they have a need for dynamic offensive playmakers and the salary cap space to make a big signing. But King's piece was written before the
Vikings traded Percy Harvin to Seattle. That means Minnesota could emerge as a legitimate contender for Wallace's services. A weekend report said the New England Patriots "have some interest" in Wallace as well. However, King's story indicates no team is willing to make the kind of financial investment in Wallace that the Dolphins are prepared to make. Indeed, the Palm Beach Post hears from someone they trust that Wallace to the Dolphins is a "done deal. ..." Stay tuned.
