Welker is hoping to get an official contract offer from the New England Patriots before free agency starts on Tuesday. If it happens, it will be the first offer the Patriots have sent Welker during months of negotiations. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots haven't extended an official offer to Welker during all their conversations, according to a source. That's a surprise, but perhaps it shouldn't be.

As NFL.com pointed out, teams are wary of getting official offers shopped around at this time of year. It's hard to believe that Welker's agents don't know the rough ballpark of where negotiations stand, and whether the Patriots are willing to pay enough to keep Welker off the market. It's worth noting that Patriots owner Robert Kraft once again voiced his desire for Welker to continue his work in Foxboro. “We want Wes,” Kraft said, according to the New York Post. “We really do.” Kraft also said, “I love Wes Welker,” according to ESPN. “I hope he remains a Patriot for life, just like Tom Brady. ...” Stay tuned.
