According to reports out of New York, negotiations between the NFL and NFL Players Association have broken off. In fact, the union's lead negotiator Jeffrey Kessler said the talks are "dead as a doornail."

ESPN insider Chris Mortensen is confirming this report, citing NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw as his source. Mortensen added that Upshaw was planning to return to Washington while commissioner Paul Tagliabue was reportedly planning to get the league's executive committee together for a conference call. ...
