The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... Two weeks after agreeing to trade for Smith, the Chiefs introduced their new QB. Smith expressed excitement to be in Kansas City — especially after being shown that he clearly wasn’t going be the 49ers’ starter anymore. As for coming to KC, he said being a Chiefs QB — the starting quarterback — was his first choice. “There was no doubt in my mind that this is where I wanted to be,” he said. “There was no doubt in my mind. I’m glad it (the trade) got done."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
And as Profootballtalk.com noted, if you thought signing Chase Daniel represented some kind of hedge by the Chiefs, HC Andy Reid
put it to rest on Wednesday afternoon. At a press conference formally introducing Smith as a member of the Chiefs, Reid was quick to say that Smith was the team’s starter. Smith, a 6-4, 217-pounder who turns 29 in May, will not have to look over his shoulder at Daniel. Of course, one could have argued the same about Smith and Colin Kaepernick last season. Smith was the NFL’s top rated passer (104.1) and was completing more than 70 percent of his passes when he received a concussion in a November game against the Rams. When Smith was cleared to play a couple of weeks later, the 49ers kept him on the bench in favor of Kaepernick, who then guided San Francisco to the Super Bowl. That said, Reid and the Chiefs don't have the kind of buy-in with Daniel that Jim Harbaugh and the Niners have with Kaepernick. So Smith should be safe. As long as he plays well. And avoids concussions.
