The Facts:
The Steelers had Wells in for a physical this week. Wells, drafted in the first round by Arizona in 2009 from Ohio State, was released Monday by the Cardinals.

Wells' career has been pocked with injuries, particularly to both knees. In fact, there have been reports suggesting the Cardinals expected Wells' knees to be an ongoing issue making it easier to release him. Still, Rashard Mendenhall's departure (he subsequently signed with the Cardinals), leaves and opening and the Steelers performing due diligence on Wells is no surprise. ... We'll follow up as needed.
