Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Davis is widely regarded as the most talented tight end left on the free agent market, but he comes with some issues. If the Browns can get Davis at the right price, he might worth the risks. For starters, Davis suffered a torn Achilles tendon in week seven last season and is still working his way back from the injury. An Achilles can take a year or more to fully recover from. What's more, Davis was suspended for four games in 2011 for failing drug tests, and faces a year-long suspension if he violates the terms of the NFL's substance abuse policy again. Despite the issues, the Redskins recognize Davis' immense talent and are determined to re-sign him. The Browns apparently also feel the rewards could outweigh the risks. Both teams are probably hoping to get Davis at a bargin. The Browns also signed former Panthers tight end Gary Barnidge on Wednesday, but he's more of a reserve tight end and special teams player.
