According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Vikings have apparently secured a deal with former Chiefs starter Matt Cassel.

The Vikings knew they needed a better second option at quarterback, so they didn’t want to wait. As PFT's Darin Gantt suggests, the pace of the move underlines just how seriously they wanted someone better than Joe Webb behind Christian Ponder and how much competition there was for Cassel. Gantt added: "After the beating [Cassel] he took in Kansas City, he’s also not the kind of guy who would be bucking for the starting job, old enough to know his role behind Ponder and not create pressure. ..." And he's got ample experience should the sudden need for his services arise.
