Barring an 11th-hour snag in negotiations, the Jets will announce today that Pennington has restructured his contract and will remain with the team, a person close to the negotiations has indicated. The announcement will beat the 6 p.m. deadline for teams to be under the salary cap.

It became obvious last week after GB Mike Tannenbaum and Tom Condon, the agent for Pennington, met at the NFL scouting combine that the two sides were inching toward a deal. If not, talks would have broken off a while ago. In a conference call last week, Pennington made it clear he wanted to remain with the Jets and the feeling is apparently mutual.
