Jason Hanson Waiting For A Suitable Offer From Lions
(3/20 3:0 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... It was widely assumed that Hanson would return for a 22nd season with the Lions after he decided to put off retirement last week. The Lions have said publicly they want Hanson back, but team president Tom Lewand stopped short of guaranteeing that would happen at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday. “We’re waiting to hear back from them at this point and see where we are,” Lewand said. “But we’ve had discussions with them ever since Jason indicated that he wanted to play this year and see where that comes out.”  Reported by the Detroit Free Press

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to Free Press reporter David Birkett, Hanson’s agent, Jack Mills, said the Lions haven’t made a suitable contract offer yet. “We don’t feel like there’s any urgency and at this time we don’t have anything on the table that would be acceptable,” Mills said. Hanson, whose contract expired after the season, told the Lions before the start of free agency last week that he wanted to kick for at least one more year. At 42, he’s the oldest player in the NFL and coming off one of his best seasons, when he made 32 of 36 field goals. ... Worth noting: With limited cap space, Lewand said sentimentality won’t play a role in Hanson’s return. Stay tuned.
