The NFL has just announced the start of the new league year -- and the start of free agency -- has been delayed. Originally scheduled to begin Monday at 12:01 a.m. EST, the new deadline is Thursday at 12:01 a.m. EST.

While the delay obviously gives the league and union more time to reach an agreement, ESPN insider Chris Mortensen is reporting the delay might be more useful in giving commissioner Paul Tagliabue more time to get the league's owners to reach an agreement on revenue sharing -- which union officials claim is the real reason the two sides are struggling to come to terms.
