Childress Joins Chiefs Coaching Staff
(3/28 7:40 PT)

The Facts:
Almost immediately after Andy Reid took over as head coach of the Chiefs, the speculation began that Brad Childress would join his staff. But it took almost three months for the deal to finally get done, and Childress is finally with the Chiefs — and with an unusual title. The Chiefs announced today that Childress has joined their coaching staff to serve with a title of “Spread Game Analyst/Special Projects.”  Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As PFT's Michael David Smith noted, there’s no immediate word on what, exactly, a coach with a title of “Spread Game Analyst/Special Projects” does on a daily basis, but the word “spread” in the title may suggest that Reid is hoping Childress can help him find a happy marriage between the West Coast Offense that he has always run and the spread offense that has been increasingly employed in the NFL — and that quarterback Alex Smith ran under Urban Meyer at Utah. ... Childress worked for Reid for seven seasons in Philadelphia, first as quarterbacks coach and then as offensive coordinator. He left the Eagles to become head coach of the Vikings from 2006 to 2010, and was most recently the offensive coordinator of the Browns in 2012.
