Buccaneers Sign WR Steve Smith
(4/2 12:29 PT)

The Facts:
Former Giants and Rams receiver Smith, who four years ago had a 1,200 yard season with New York, has signed a one-year contract with the Bucs. Reported by the St. Petersburg Times

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Smith, whose production has plummeted since that stellar 107-catch, 1,220-yard 2009 season, reunites with Bucs offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan in Tampa. Sullivan was the Giants’ receivers coach when the team drafted Smith out of USC in 2007. After spending 2012 with the Rams, catching just 14 passes for 131 yards, Times staffer Stephen Holder reports that Smith joins the Bucs on a deal that will pay him $715,000 with a $65,000 workout bonus. Smith enters what’s shaping up as a very competitive situation at receiver behind starters Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. The Bucs already signed Cowboys receiver Kevin Ogletree and have Tiquan Underwood – last season’s No. 3 receiver – under contract. Smith likely will be thrust into the mix with those two veterans.
