Chad Henne Eager For A Shot At Starting Job
(4/5 2:30 PT)

The Facts:
At the moment, Henne is the only quarterback on the Jaguars' roster besides Blaine Gabbert and with the job wide open, he is eager for a shot at winning the starting job. “We all have a fresh start and I said before I believe I can be a starter in this league. I really enjoy this team and I want to be in Jacksonville,” he said as the Jaguars began their offseason program this week.  Reported by the Florida Times-Union

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As Times-Union staffer Vito Stellino notes, Henne will get a shot because new HC Gus Bradley is putting an emphasis on competition and evaluation. Henne, who started the last six games when Gabbert was injured and placed on injured reserve, is eager to prove himself. “Anybody in my situation wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s going to be great. Whoever they bring in, Blaine and I are up for it,” he said. Henne, who signed a two-year deal as a free agent last year, knows it may be now or never for him in his sixth NFL season. There aren’t many quarterback jobs open in the NFL and he has a chance to win one of them. ... But can he? As noted in this week's Fantasy Notebook, Henne and Gabbert’s statistics weren’t much different last year. Henne had a 72.2 passer rating with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions; Gabbert’s was 77.4 with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. Gabbert was 26th in quarterback rating, Henne 31st. The Jaguars need one of them to step up this year, which is why there will be a quarterback competition involving Gabbert, Henne and at least one newcomer, if not two. ... Stay tuned.
