The Facts:
Ponder was forced to miss the Vikings playoff game against the Packers after suffering a bad contusion to his throwing arm in the regular season finale against Green Bay. The injury ultimately led to a trip to emergency room for Ponder in the weeks following the season. Ponder spoke to reporters Wednesday as the Vikings are going through their offseason workouts. He revealed that the contusion “came back” two weeks after the season and he almost ended up requiring emergency surgery on his injured arm. “The whole arm swelled up and I actually had to go to the ER and get that taken care of,” Ponder said. “It was a little scary with [concerns] about a blood clot. But it ended up being fine.”

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Ponder said the arm swelled up and got rock hard prompting a trip to emergency room. He feared a blood clot had formed in his arm and doctors at the hospital believed he could be experiencing compartment syndrome. Luckily for Ponder, a call with Vikings trainer Eric Sugarman helped tap the brakes on any aggressive treatment and instead opting for an MRI to further diagnose the issue. The results confirmed that it wasn’t compartment syndrome and just the return of the original contusion. “They said it was fine. Just to ice it down or whatever and it would work itself out,” Ponder said. As PFT's Curtis Crabtree suggested, it’s good news for Ponder and the Vikings. Compartment syndrome and the ensuing treatment necessarily could have put Ponder out of commission for a significant amount time (not to mention the serious risk to Ponder’s health alone). With the contusion healed, Ponder is clear to work with his teammates throughout the offseason.
