Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Pead will serve a one-game suspension at the start of the regular season for a violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy. The nature of the violation is unclear. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

A second-round pick of the Rams in 2012, Pead is regarded as one of the contenders for carries that once went to Steven Jackson, who signed with Atlanta in the offseason. However, he’s not going to get a chance to show what he can do in the season opener vs. Arizona. Rookie Zac Stacy and Daryl Richardson are the other Rams backs to watch this summer.
