The Facts:
OC Mary Mornhinweg had said he hoped a leader would emerge quickly in the Jets QB competition so that a starter could take command of the offense. Rex Ryan doesn't expect that to happen by the end of the Jets' mandatory mini-camp next week, though. "I don't think we're close to that right now," the Jets coach said. "And obviously the process, you don't have to make that move," Ryan said. "Until we feel 100 percent comfortable with that decision we'll just leave it to competition."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Ryan did not think there's been a clear-cut leader through OTAs, and insisted that Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez are still splitting reps with the first string. Sanchez has piloted a majority of the first-string snaps during each of the OTA practices available to the media. "It's way too early to say, sometimes this guy looks good sometimes this guy looks good," Ryan said. According to Star-Ledger staffer Conor Orr, the final decision will also be made by Ryan. Even though he is admittedly involving himself more on the defensive side of the ball, it will be his call on who to start Week 1. ... One certainty? Whoever it is should not be your fantasy starter that same week.
