On the eve of free agency, the Vikings were at the epicenter of the NFL, as media outlets speculated on Daunte Culpepper's next stop. Several teams rumored to be in the hunt were ruled out Friday, including the Raiders, Saints, Jets, Ravens and Rams. That left the Dolphins, the Lions and the Cardinals as possibilities given their intention of upgrading at that position. Another surprise team that could be in the mix is the Titans.

According to Pioneer Press staffer Sean Jensen, this is what's clear: The Vikings were actively engaged in trade talks Friday, trying to maximize their return on Culpepper before the start of free agency. They were reportedly asking for a second-round draft pick. ... One other thing is clear: Culpepper's days as a Viking are numbered, one way or the other. Should they fail to consummate a trade, the veteran signal caller seems likely to be released.
