Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Detroit Free Press and ESPN first reported that Stafford could sign a three-year contract extension with the Lions on Tuesday. The deal is worth $53 million in new money. Stafford had two years and $23.5 million remaining on his previous deal. That puts the value of his remaining five years with the Lions at $76.5 million. He is now under contract with the Lions through the 2017 season and is set to receive $41.5 million in guaranteed money. Stafford will be 29 when the contract expires -- leaving him ample time to cash in with another big contract. Remember; Stafford's current annual salary is a clear tier below contracts signed recently by quarterbacks Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco. Stafford admitted he lacks the accomplishments, and jewelry, to be in that pay grade at this time. "That's what those guys have -- league MVP, Super Bowl rings, years of experience doing it, all of that. That's what I think is a great opportunity for me over these next four or five years is to get to that level."
