Is It Too Late For Matt Schaub To Emerge As An Elite QB?
(7/17 12:29 PT)

The Facts:
In his annual quarterback rankings, ESPN’s Ron Jaworski put Matt Schaub ahead of each of the young quartet of future franchise quarterbacks: Colin Kaepernick, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, and Russell Wilson. Now that Schaub has landed in Jaworski’s top 10, the challenge becomes getting to everyone’s top five. And that happens only by winning a Super Bowl. Texans quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell recognizes that. He told the team’s website after offseason workouts that, for Schaub to become elite, he needs to become a “crunch time” player. “I know Matt’s really right there; he’s on the cusp of being one of those players,” Dorrell said. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Of course, as PFT's Mike Florio suggests, if Schaub is going to go from being “on the cusp,” the QB better get with it. He’s 32 years old. Florio went on to contend Schaub's age and experience invites a fair question: Maybe Schaub is simply as good as he’s ever going to be. Remember: Schaub threw for more than 4,000 yards for the third time in his career, getting considerable help from Andre Johnson, who caught 112 passes for a career-high 1,598 yards, and Arian Foster, who ran for 1,424 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. With those weapons at his command, Schaub's inability to emerge as an elite QB yet lends credence to Florio's theory that we've seen the ceiling.
