As he recovers from a Lisfranc injury that ended his season in week 4 of last season, Holmes is dealing with uncertainty. He underwent two surgeries since that point and says he is dealing with a major injury for the first time in his career. So when asked if he thinks he will play this season, Holmes answer was stark: "I can't answer that question," he said after the Jets' first practice of training camp.

Holmes did not participate. He is on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He mostly did his own work on the side and was also a vocal cheerleader for the receiving corps during some portions of practice. But he could not provide many answers about when he will play again. He has no timetable for when he could practice. "Whenever the doctors declare me to go out and perform will be the day I go out and show up for practice."
